A shockwave is defined as a sound wave that passes through the body and is not an electrical pulse.

The treatment initiates a pro-inflammatory response in the tissues where the shockwaves have been applied.

The body responds by increasing blood circulation and metabolism in the impacted area, which accelerates the body’s own healing processes. The shockwaves break down injured tissues and calcifications. The treatment stimulates and supports the body’s self-healing mechanisms. According to the FDA,

“’Shockwave’ offers two main advantages over traditional surgical methods: fewer potential complications and a faster return to normal activity.”

Typically, 5-10 sessions, each lasting approximately 5-7 minutes, are required.

Sometimes the treatment can be painful, but most individuals can endure these few intense minutes without medication. Reported side effects are minimal, including potential skin reddening and bruising.

If you experience pain during the treatment, please notify the practitioner, as adjustments can be made to reduce discomfort. Some pain during treatment may indicate that the shockwaves are having an effect. Significant clinical benefits are often seen after 6-8 weeks of treatment.
